Description
Shore birds often have the most amazing flight patterns, and when they hunt in a pack their turns are exquisitely synchronized. From a distance, one sees a number of brownish-backed birds suddenly flash white as their banking turn reveals their white underwings and bellies. I'm still not sure exactly what these are--probably sandpipers, but I'm happy to be corrected. These birds were photographed in Ding Darling, and I had many failed attempts before I was able to capture them at the point in their gyre most perpendicular to me. At least on this occasion, the center of the gyre held.
