Almost Airborne by TerribleTer Almost Airborne by TerribleTer
Amazingly, this humpback whale appeared just fifteen minutes after our Kenai Fjords cruise ship left the harbor, and then it continued to breach a dozen times in succession near the boat.  I was struck by a sense of playfulness in the whale's antics, as well as by the way it seemed to like to smack its fins against the water and raise a cloud of spray.  What majestic creatures!

I went whale watching last year in Canada so I definitely know what you're raving about!

Thanks for your kind invitation, and please excuse my lengthy delay in responding.  (I'm a teacher, and I had so much work last semester that I had to take a long hiatus from DA.)  You're welcome to post the picture, although I imagine that your invitation already expired, and I'm not sure that I'm the right person for your group, since in five years I have only posted one picture of a whale!  :-)  But I really do appreciate the offer!

I just realized now that I never responded to your kind comment.  I got a bit overwhelmed with work last semester and had to take a lengthy hiatus from DA.  But I hope that all is well with you!  Are you still writing?

Think nothing of it, my friend. :)
And I hope your work isn't getting you too swamped. I hope you're taking time for yourself.
And I have taken a little sabaital from writing at the moment… I just need to come up with a good idea. xD

Sabbaticals--even little, unofficial ones--can be great things, and I hope that you find the inspiration you need to return to your writing.  I'll also be taking a kind of sabbatical in May and June to hike the Camino de Santiago de Compostela in northern Spain.  I just bought my airline tickets today.  It was one of those bridge-burning moments, since the ticket is nonrefundable, so the whole thing is starting to feel more real now.   This time I plan to take a good camera along despite the weight.  I'm still contemplating whether to carry a tripod, which weighs three additional lbs.  Ah, the sacrifices one won't make for a good picture!  :-)

It was indeed amazing--and very obliging on the part of the whale, I must say!  :-)  I hope you get to see one breach (with your camera ready) if you haven't already!

I couldn't believe how far the whale extended out of the water either.  It must have one powerful tail to propel it so high!  :-)
